At 9:00 a.m. on March 29, 2022, the School of Public Policy and Administration (SPPA) of Chongqing University invited Zhang Pengju, an assistant professor at Rutgers University, to give an online lecture entitled "Understanding the Boundaries of Cities: The Application of Assertion Regression in Empirical Analysis". Professor Liu Yulin, Vice Dean of SPPA, presided over the lecture, which was attended by more than 50 teachers and students of the School.
Professor Zhang Pengju holds a Ph.D. in Public Administration from Maxwell School of Civic and Public Affairs at Syracuse University, where he focuses on state and local finance, local governance, and quantitative analysis. His papers are found in International Tax and Public Finance; Education Finance and Policy; Public Finance Review; American Review of Public Administration; Public Budgeting and Finance; and Publius: The Journal of Federalism.
In this lecture, Professor Zhang Pengju cut into the theme after a brief introduction of the research background, and used the sensus date 1980-2010 research data, breakpoint regression research methods and FRD and DID&event-study models to make an in-depth interpretation of the research problems. Professor Zhang exemplifies the research problems by giving examples and interpreting data, and presents a unique public management lecture for the students.
The content of the lecture was in-depth and easy-to-understand, teachers and students of SPPA asked questions on relevant issues, and Professor Zhang patiently answered them.
Finally, Professor Zhang summarized the content of this lecture, and encouraged the students of SPPA to actively explore, bravely innovate, continue to study the research methods in related fields, make full use of methods such as breakpoint regression and quantitative research to conduct more in-depth research, and pay attention to the frontier topics of empirical analysis.
